My favorite thrift store closed last weekend, (it's actually moving across town but the new location isn't opened yet) so I haven't been able to find great deals but I did pick up a few things at Goodwill.
My first set of Pyrex mixing bowls. It is missing the large 4qt? bowl and is in a color I don't particularly like but the price was right. $1.49 for the small bowl and $1.99 each for the bigger bowls. They also had the snowflake blue on white small bowl but I left it there. (I should have bought it) I also found another owl for $.75 It was a half off color tag.
Some cute Christmas ornaments I found the Thursday before the thrift store closed. Paid $1
More Christmas decorations. I actually sold these cutouts at auction for $10.50 but of course the bidder did not pay.
Some trinket boxes and an owl candle holder. I sold the candle holder for $9.99 The trinket boxes are still available in my store
Some Rudolph coffee mugs that are up for auction in my store
My sister found this owl spoon rest. It has some chips but for $.79 cents, I could not pass it up.

Picture Makeover
I found this wooden decoupage owl picture at the thrfit store. I didn't like the dark stain. I decided to try another DIY and paint the frame white. It really brightens up the picture but I am sure I decreased the value of it.

Opinions on Shades?
I bought new shades for my owl lamps. I left the plastic on because I'm not quite sure I like them. What are your opinions?
New Shades:
Old Shades:
Once the plastic is off, I can not return them. What are your thoughts? Return or keep?

WTF Tuesday Although It is Thursday: Ozzy Sell Out
I'm a little late to Sir Thrift A Lot's WTF Tuesday party but better late than never.
Just because Ozzy's name is slapped across this mirror does not justify the $12.99 price tag. Seriously, who prices this crap? and what the hell does Ozzy have to do with mirrors? Way to sell out Ozzy!!! (btw this is Ozzy Osbourne not Ozzy from Survivor although him selling mirrors would make more sense because he looks like the type that would be looking into them a lot)

Would You Buy It Wednesday: Pair Of Owl Lamps
I have become obsessed with owls lately. I tell myself I am buying them to resell on Ebay. Which is true but I tend to overprice them and they will never sell. On Monday, when I came across these owl lamps, I had to have them. They are quite heavy and are 34 inches from the top of the shade to the bottom. Each owl is about 10 inches tall. The tree trunk has a bowl for keys and such. I paid $6 for the pair.
Not only did I get a great deal, I got a worker to carry one the 10 blocks to my house. I had walked there and did not have a car. I managed to get one lamp under the stroller and I had no idea how I was going to get the other one home when the cashier said Tim could go with me and carry one. How nice is that? I did feel bad that he had to carrry a 20 pound lamp 10 blocks. I offered him a soda but he declined.
I would like to replace the shades with more modern ones but I don't think I can find new shades that will work with these lamps. They have the screw thing on the top.
Would you have bought these?

Martha Stewart I am Not: Another DIY Failure
When I read blogs like Miss Mustard Seed and My Dear Trash I get the crazy idea "Hey I can do that" stuck into my head. They make it seem so easy. Unfortunately, retrieving the idea from my head and actually doing it is damm near impossible. Martha Stewart, I am not. Try as I can, my projects always end in failure and I am left with something worse that what I started with. Unless of course my DH can salvage it, like he did this bench I am sorely missing the DIY gene. Here is my latest attempt at a footlocker makeover.
Before pictures:
The lining was coming out and I wanted to replace it. Being ascheap thrifty as I am, I did not want to put alot of money into this project.
Mistake number 1. I bought some wall paper at the thrift store for .50 cents. The only thing this wall paper would stick to, is itself. I had to figure out how to glue this into the footlocker.
Mistake number 2. Instead of buying some adhesive, I read somewhere using equal parts white glue and water will make a good adhesive. Maybe in a perfect world, not so much in my world.
Mistake number 3. Buying striped wall paper. What the hell was I thinking? No one, not even Martha herself, can line up horizontal stripes!
Mistake number 4. Not removing the original lining.
This is how the inside of my trunk turned out.
Looks great in the picture huh? Funny how pictures can be so deceiving. If you could see it in person, you would probably think my 2 year old did it. Nothing lines up and I'm sure its starting to fall off.
Now on to the outside. I have been reading blogs about decoupaging trunks and how easy it is. LIARS I tell you. All LIES!!! Decoupage is not easy. I repeat not easy. What you say? You want proof? Here it is, all in its disastrous glory.
Again, the picture is deceiving. What you can not see are the hundreds of air bubbles floating around in this mess along with a giant crease. I hang my head in shame. What went wrong? I"ll tell you what went wrong. I read to much.

Whoooo Whooo Scored Some Owls??
That would be this girl, right here. On Monday, I went to GW and found 16 owl figurines. I left 5 behind that I wasn't excited about. Here they all are. I have them listed on EBay if anyone is interested in purchasing them.
I also purchased this vintage cloth calendar off EBay.
I put it in this gold frame but it's too big. I had to fold the top and bottom under. If I do not find another frame, I plan on painting this frame black.

Would You Buy It Wednesday
I found this footlocker/trunk last week at the thrift store. There was also a smaller version and I was going to buy both of them but when I went back to get them, another customer was walking out the door with it. (sad face) I'm glad she left the bigger one because it still had the leather carrying handles.
I'm not sure what I plan on doing with it, but right now it is holding Ryker's extra diapers. I paid $8 It has a slight musty odor even after I put it out in the sun for 3 days. Would you have bought it? What would you do with it? You can see it is quite large as it almost covers my entire coffee table.
Yesterday I went back to GW to see if I could find some more owls. On Monday I scored 11 of them. (I will post another blog later this week) I found an owl coffee cup, another McCoy cookie jar with lid and some kind of weird owl container.
When I first picked this up, I thought it was some kind of candle holder but it isn't big enough to put a tea light in it. Any ideas on what it is? I have it for sale in my store and any information would be helpful.

Like A Needle In A Haystack
On Friday, I found a McCoy pottery cookie jar shaped like a tea pot. I thought I saw somewhere that McCoy was a good seller, however, it was missing the lid.
I searched the boxes next to where I had found the jar. (It was sitting on the floor) No luck in finding the lid. The thrift store is huge and it was very unlikely that I would find it since I did not know which box the jar had come out of. I gave up, paid a dollar for the jar and went home.
I went back today and found a couple of things for resale.
Before I left I thought I would check out the lamps. You can never have too many, right? There was a box sitting on the floor and something caught my eye. I moved the other crap and there it was the lid to my cookie jar. I couldn't believe it.
I now have a complete cookie jar.

Another Alf Puppet and Some More Finds
I found another Alf puppet at Goodwill. This one is different than the last one I sold but hopefully it will sell as fast. I also found some blank cassette tapes NIP, a Bob The Builder blanket, snow pants for Ryker and a cup and saucer from World Market. Total for everything was $11.01 and that included the candle I blogged about here
The next items I found at the thrift store last Monday. I paid $3.11 for everything. Not pictured is a camera Robbie got.
I love this cute makeup mirror. If it does not sell, I think I will repaint the frame.
I love the illustrations in this 1967 book. Sally is so cool but she would now be called a flight attendant. I think this would make a sweet gift for one.
