Craigslist Buyers: Yeah, You Kind Of Suck

What is up with craigslist buyers? They send you a message asking if you have something and when you respond, they never message back. Thanks for wasting my time. Or if they do message you back, they can never commit to a time to come see your crap.

A few weeks back, I was selling this lamp.

It is brand new. My hubby took it out of the box and put it together. I had it listed for $10. I got an immediate response. The lady came over the next day to look at it. It wasn't exactly what she wanted but she was willing to take it off my hands for $7 This is a BRAND NEW lamp. Not my fault it wasn't what she exactly wanted. I told her thanks but I would wait to see if I got any other interest. I repriced it at $20

I bought these boots for myself at the thrift store about 2 months ago. It was one of those impulse buys and the next day I was  regretting buying them. I wore them a few days but didn't really love them so I posted them for sale.

Apparently, the response to my ad was going to my spam folder and I didn't notice I had a prospective buyer for a few days. His email finally came to my inbox and we set up a time today to look at them. I emailed him this morning to see if he was still coming and I got no response. 30 minutes before he was to arrive, I hear a knock on my door. There he is looking like he just murdered someone. I was asking $25 for them. (yes I overpaid at the t.s. and wanted my money back plus $5 for cleaning them) He looked them over and tried them on. He said they were really worn. Yes, the soles were worn but they are Made In the USA leather boots! He asked if I would take $15 I said I would go down to $20. Again he said, they are really worn. I agreed to take $15 and I said I didn't have change. He said I only have $15 He showed up with NO INTENTION whatsoever of paying my asking price! Sure, I will bargain with you but at least show up with the correct amount and go from there.

I still have a few things for sale on CL but I'm seriously thinking about taking them to the consignment shop.

Burberry Bear

A few weeks ago, I purchased a bag full of books and stuffed animals off of Craigslist. One of the animals I found was a Burberry Check Plaid teddy bear. This was a gift item that one got when buying $25 worth of perfume.

I checked out Ebay to see what they were selling for. I could only find one other listed in this pattern for $159 or Best Offer. I then checked complete listings. The highest sold at that time was $49 and this was after Christmas so I knew the time of year did not affect sales. Others sold between $25 to $32 Since I could only find the one listed on Ebay for $159, I decided I would list mine for around $75 but first I thought I would see what members of a certain FB group would price it at.

After a few minutes, one member replied I would not get more than $20 for it. He sited the fact that on Terapeak, the average selling price was $23 and that there were quite a few listed. I told him I only found one other listed in this pattern. He managed to find two other listings that were auctions and both listings did not have specific keywords such as check plaid. Those listings ended for less than $15 but I believe had they wrote check plaid in their title, they would have at least doubled their ending price.

Anyways, I decided to price it at $74.99 I had quite a few watchers but no offers. There was 5 days left to the listing and Ebay was running their free listing promotion, so I ended the listing early and re listed it at $59.99 There are a few others listed around my price range so hopefully I can get a sale. I would love to sell this for at least $50 just so I can shove it in the fb groups face, although after this pass weekend I left the group and can not do so. There is a way to give advice without being condescending and apparently this group does not know how to do it.

What 5 Dollars Bought

Yesterday, we went to Goodwill to see if this vintage stainless steel canister set was still there. It consisted of 4 containers: tea, coffee, sugar and flour. They were priced separately for $4.99 each. This week they were set to go half off. Unfortunately, when we got there, they were already gone. So, what did I find?

A Fisher Price Laugh and Learn Play House for $5

I sold one last year with two other toys on craigslist for $60.  I have this listed on Facebook and craigslist. I might try selling it on Ebay but I'm not sure about shipping it. I could take it apart but that seems like a lot of work. If it doesn't sell within a month or so I might just have to. These sell brand new for $90
