Kokeshi Dolls

I found this cute pair of dolls at Goodwill today. I picked them up, looked at them and put them back on the shelf. I didn't even know what they were called and wasn't sure if I could make some good money or not. I looked through the rest of the store and didn't find anything else. So I went back and put the dolls in my cart. I had to get something right? To make the trip worth it.

I posted them on the Ebay Mommy Facebook group asking what they were.  Another member wrote back and said they were Kokeshi Dolls. They were originally made of wood but these are ceramic. I like how their cheeks are blushed and their pink bows.

Send In The Clowns

No, wait. Actually, send them away. What is scarier than a box full of clowns? How about 2 boxes of clowns? I'm not sure what my DH was thinking when he bid on these at the auction. I just hope they don't come alive in the middle of the night and kill me. The one has a gun, y'all. A gun! Who in their right mind would give a clown a gun?

Box full of figurines:

plus a bunch of clown themed dishes

equals one hell of a nightmare. I'm truly convinced this fella is waiting for me to turn off the lights

and jump down from the shelf he is on

and murder me in my sleep. And if he needs any help, my DH also picked up a box of Cabbage Patch Dolls for a buck.

I'm telling ya, this is how the world is going to end with killer clowns and flesh eating Cabbage Patch Kids.

I won't fall asleep. I won't fall asleep. I won't fall asleep...

New Trike for Ryker

I sold my pool balls I got last weekend to my sister:

and sold my gun chest to my other sister

and bought Ryker a tricycle that was for sale on Facebook.

He loves his bike so much and has become a pro at peddling.

A New Desk

Last Thursday, I spotted a desk with hutch at the thrift store. Someone had repainted it a rust orange and all the drawers were painted shut. I really liked the style but not the color. The price was $65 I left it there because 1. I didn't have enough cash 2. I didn't have a way to get it home 3 The color. I told my hubby about it and he said if I bought it he would get it home. I thought about it all weekend. I could learn to love the orange until I got it repainted and perhaps they would take a lower offer. I called Sunday morning and it was not to be. They had sold it the day before.

Yesterday, I took some stuff to the consignment store and decided to look around. I bought some clothes for resale, paid and left. They have an additional building where all their furniture is. I decided to take a peek. And I found a similar desk and hutch for the same price but in it's original color. I called my hubby and he said he would pick it up for me.

So I got it. But there was one problem.

See that piece of trim? My laptop would not open with that trim there. So I removed it.

Unfortunately, that did not solve my problem. I will need to get a slimmer cooling pad for my lap top in order for the desk to be functional.

Let's just keep this a secret from my hubby as he didn't want me to get a new desk.

Goodwill Finds

Stopped at Goodwill today and found some owls, a watercolor, shoes for Ryker, pink Sing A Ma Jig, Minnie Mouse, and some more curlers.

Isn't this owl cute? My sister told me to turn around and there he was staring from the shelf. He is made of feathers and styrofoam?

Look at his big eyes. How could I not take him home?

I'm not sure what these two owls are made of. It almost looks like they have walnut shells for feathers.

I believe this is a watercolor but I am not an expert. It is signed Edmund Osthaus I listed it at auction to see what kind of price I could get. Some of his paintings are worth big bucks. I'm sure it's a reproduction because I could never get that lucky.

It has a mat but it is unframed. And whoever put it in the mat was so professional, they used address labels. I didn't want to remove the labels for fear of ruining the artwork

I thought maybe this Minnie Mouse was worth something. I have never seen these type of toys before. They are called Pook A Looz.

Ryker with his new shoes. They look almost brand new. Can you believe they only cost $2.99?

and another set of rollers. These are the Conair Ion Shine. It seems like I have been finding rollers every where. My closet is starting to become filled with them.

Garbage Sales

Yes, you read the title right. It's not a typo. I went to some garage sales on Friday that I saw posted on Facebook. They looked promising but all the good stuff must have been sold before we got there. The first sale we stopped at wasn't advertised and was probably the best sale although it was overpriced. My sister managed to find an apple basket for a quarter and I found some Diego toys and a vacuum for Robert (although Ryker claimed it) I listed the Diego toys on Ebay and if they don't sell, I will give them to Ryker for Christmas along with the other Diego toys I got from Facebook.

At the next sale, I picked up a bag of baby toys and asked the seller if she would sell me the security blanket separately. She agreed and I have this listed as well.

A few garage sales later and we came across the big one that promised lots of items from 7 different families. It was in a huge pole shed and there were a lot of scrap booking stuff (I would have no idea what to buy so I didn't look at it) and clothing. I never have any luck with baby clothing on Ebay so I didn't look through that either.

I did find this Winnie the Pooh ride on airplane. I was hoping to resell it but when I put in batteries, it only half worked. The propeller spins and lights up but it doesn't play music or identify the shapes. Also, Toys R Us on Ebay (hate that they are allowed to sell on Ebay. Who can compete with that?) is selling brand new ones for $40 with free shipping with purchases over $75. So even if it was working, I probably could have only gotten $20 and packing this for shipping would not be worth it. (I was hoping to get $30 but now since it doesn't work, Ryker is playing with it)

I also picked up 21 peek a blocks. These are a hit or miss. I plan on listing them when I have more or a toy to go with them. I did list the three sports themed ones as those seem to sell on their own.

My sister found some vintage Christmas cards in a free box and gave me these. They sure are cute.

Yesterday I walked to 4 sales before it rained. Those were a complete waste of time. I often wonder why people slap price tags on their garbage. I felt so gross after going to these sales, I needed a shower. At the last one, the sellers were drinking beer and I thought they were going to stab me if I didn't buy something. I got these billiard balls and it looked like a complete set (They were in a small box and I didn't want to empty it out on the garage floor). Unfortunately, when I got home, I discovered it was incomplete and had a few doubles.

Ryker wanted these as well but can you imagine the damage he could cause?

and the best purchase this weekend: a Wilton 3D lion cub cake pan. I saw this on my facebook group, looked it up on Ebay and immediately sent a message saying I would buy it. Complete listings show these can sell between $30 - $50 Active listings have them around $50 Mine is the only listing with free shipping which makes it the cheapest so hopefully I can sell it quickly.

You can also make a tiger or a puppy with this pan. If it doesn't sell by Ryker's birthday, I think I will try it out. On Tuesday, I am meeting another seller from Facebook to purchase some shoes for Ryker and some Little People toys. Ryker has quite the collection of Little People and when he is no longer interested, I will sell them in a big lot. I think they do better that way.

Thrift Store Treasures

We went to the thrift store this afternoon and here is what I found.

I love these handmade vtg aprons. My sister picked up one too that I overlooked. I don't have a picture but her's had a hand towel attached to it. Kind of interesting.

The Speak and Spell does not work. There is something wrong with the battery compartment. It doesn't seem big enough for the size C battery. I tried to turn it on with an adapter and it worked for a few minutes and now it won't power back on.

I found a bunch of playing cards. The owls are so sweet.

A set of Clairol Kindness 3 Way Hairsetter Hot Rollers

And my find of the day: another set of Remington Tight Curls Hot Rollers. I did not find these at the thrift store but at a garage sale by my house. I snatched them right from under my sister's reach.

Ebay Sale = Facebook Buy

I sold this Wilton Pink Panther cake pan on Ebay for $25 with free shipping. This was the first Wilton pan I have ever bought and I'm glad it sold.

and I bought these two sets of Diego toys from my facebook group for $15

The Rescue Center is discontinued. I thought about waiting until Christmas to sell it but since I upgraded my store, it will only cost me .05 cents a month. They have been selling for around $40 with a sell through rate of 46%  The car and 2nd Diego are extra since this set is missing the rescue basket and hook.

The Dinosaur Mountain Play set is not discontinued and sells around $30 with a sell through rate of 50% I'm sure around Christmas time, these sell through rates will increase. The Sky Glider and Diego are extra in this set as well.

Owl Take Him

I forgot to show what I found in the free box on Friday. A homemade owl. Isn't he cute?

How can you resist those big orange eyes? He is made from a pine cone. At first, I wasn't going to get him because I don't need anymore owls and I showed Bill and he said "Just get him. You know you want him." The seller saw me holding him and said "My grandma made that." (How sweet and you're throwing it away.) I knew I couldn't let him be thrown in the trash, so he went home with me. He is sitting in my curio cabinet with all the rest of my owls. At least he isn't lonely.

Yesterday's Yard Sale Finds

Rib Mountain had their annual community garage sales yesterday and I believe over 80 homes participated. Of course, we didn't make it to all of them but we did find some fantastic things.

Stunning Starburst Clock (keeping for myself) $2 and it works!

Some hot rollers and free crucifix

Why yes, those are the coveted Remington Tight Rollers in the back. I listed them last night and they sold within a few hours for $89.99 with free shipping. They are new in the box.

A toy train for Ryker, some Pink Dogs, a MMPR figure, and TMNT and what is in that brown case?

I did not get the brown case at a yard sale. I bought it at Goodwill. I knew right away what it was when I saw it. It is an Olivetti Portable typewriter made in Italy. The case is in poor condition but the typewriter seems to have been well taken care of. The ribbon is broken but the keys do not stick. I think my sister wanted this but I spotted it before her. I don't think she knew what it was until I opened it.

Unless otherwise noted, most of my finds are for sale in my Ebay store http://stores.ebay.com/To-the-Toy-Box-and-Beyond
