WOW I Have No Words

What you share on Face Book shows your character. Just saying Jason T Smith is not a good person

  1. What was the context of that rant?

    1. That's what I'm wondering, too? I'm in this facebook group, and Bryan and Jason do seem like pretty good guys, and they do share and teach what they know. I can't imagine what would've provoked this, but it had to be major.

    2. I got this second hand as I am not in that group nor do I have any need or desire to be. Apparently the op did not want to share the cost of an item she had purchased. What does it matter anyway? My point is Jason needs to remain calm and professional. He sounds like a control freak with anger issues

    3. A woman asked how to price an item (a rare Korn boxed cd/vhs set) since she could find no comps. The drama happened after she wouldn't tell the group how much she paid (or in this case would be paying for the item). This is a big no-no in the group. Apparently she didn't want the group members to swoop in and buy the item -- then she referred to the group members as vultures.

I don't think there is anything wrong with NOT telling everyone how much you paid for an item (and I do understand not wishing to reveal it if you hadn't already purchased the item -- which was being sold online. The group had no trouble locating the original ad for the item after the poster had been given the boot.) It has no bearing on the item's value. But I just kept my mouth shut. :)

  2. Who is Jason T. Smith and what secrets do I need to know?

    1. He has a show on Spike tv called Auction Hunters and a FB group called Thrifting With The Boys where this rant was taken from

    2. sorry not auction hunters It is Thrift Hunters

  3. TWTB does provide good info. Knowing what went down in another group, I believe his rant was justified.

    1. I got this second hand but how is swearing and getting all worked up over someone who doesn't want to share the cost of an item justified?

    2. I read the entire thread on the facebook page. Jason didn't step until several of his moderators politely told the person all of the information that would be needed in order to answer the question. The person who asked the original question then got very rude with the moderators. Jason and Bryan do not tolerate that, and Jason was probably more upset about the rudeness to the moderators than anything else. I'm not saying it was handled perfectly, but I don't think that Jason should be judged on this one comment without sharing the entire context of what happened.

    3. why does knowing how much you paid for an item have anything to do with anything? You're right. I don't have the entire post but if you want people to treat you with respect, you need to show respect as well. Read other FB groups and you will see how Jason comes across in those.

    4. Trust me, I have gotten more messages about the bad side of Jason then anyone defending him so what does that say about his character?

    5. I'm with the consensus of the nastiness of the group. I read the whole thread as I'm a member. Did the poster get a little rude, yes, but I also don't agree with the forcefulness to post something irrelevant. Also it's a huge group(10k members) so how on earth would they know who the admins were? Either way I don't believe it was handled well with all the swearing and aggressive messages on there. There's no justification for that, treat people right.

  4. That group (TWTB) has a long history of nastiness. I'm not saying the poster was without fault but the TWTB group is known for going on the attack with little provocation. Tact is not their strong suit. I left after witnessing more than one of these tacky, mean exchanges. Good riddance, I say.

    1. I agree. I left a long time ago. I posted there twice and the first time I got someone with a superior attitude tell me I would be lucky to get $20 for my item. (It later sold for $59.99) There is a way to give advice without being condescending and apparently this group does not know how to do that.

  6. I was a member of that FB group for about 3 months. When I joined, I asked what FOMO stood for and was told to search the group page and not ask questions already answered. I never asked another question or even made a comment for fear of being criticized, having seen it done many times during the time I was a member. Although there was lots of great info on that page, I left recently because it just felt like a bunch of bullies.

  7. I watched their show and wasn't very impressed. In fact, during one episode as they bought stuff at a thrift shop, I simultaneously researched the stuff on eBay to verify the value. Most of the stuff was no where near the value they claimed it to be. Which is another problem with the show, as they walk out of each store they add up what the "think" the total value is. Usually they say something like, "I just made $300 dollars!" But you haven't made it until you sell it! Come back to us with a number after you sell it. But I guess is this is what the producers of the show tell them to say. Still kind of bogus though.

  8. Interesting how this has traveled across the internet. I am the original OP in that thread. I was the one with the CD/VHS KoRn thingy. My original post was to ask what the item was worth. At that point, I hadn't purchased it yet, but I wasn't asking if it was worth buying. I was asking if there were enough KoRn fanatics to make it worth auctioning, or how much it was worth as a BIN. There were NONE available anywhere. Nothing had been sold in the last year on eBay (according to Terapeak). I did call them vultures....Shame on me. I was angry because I was being attacked for something that had no bearing on my question. That was the only time that I lost my cool and said something rude. Nowhere in the rules (which take up a page on their website) does it say that you must lead with a purchase price, and from what I could tell after, its very arbitrary. As I hadn't purchased it yet, and it was readily available on Craigslist, I wasn't willing to share that information with 10K followers of the group. After I had purchased it, I was being stubborn, because I didn't feel like it was anyone's business. Just so it's clear.....One...Nobody that posted identified themselves as admin... Two...Jason's post happened right after he booted me from the group. No warning, no message from him...just removed...then he started posting along with Bryan. They added my link to my listing to their "Special Projects" page...for what reason, I'm still unclear. They spent the rest of the evening with other people making nasty comments about me, and because I was booted, I couldn't defend myself. There were 3 posters (that I know of) that actually tried to help me, and they were also removed from the group. The only thing they posted was answers to my original question. They were removed with no warning or reason. I know this because they messaged me privately. I felt horrible because they were ousted because of me. It was truly awful.

    1. Hello I'm glad you commented. I agree it is nobody's business what the purchase price was as that had no bearing on what you could sell it for. Good luck with your sale

    2. Thank you. There's actually been quite a bit of interest, and several lowball offers. It's very sad to me that the whole thing was blown waaaay out of proportion. For everyone who thought I was rude...as I mentioned, the only time I felt like I was rude was when I called them vultures...and I wasn't talking to the admin, Jason or Bryan. I said it to the people who didn't have any experience in the item in question, so they only wanted to know to satisfy their own curiosity. As it was, they did find the CL listing and the phone number of the guy that posted it for sale. I can only imagine how many calls/texts he got that night of people wanting to purchase.

  9. I check the group out but have to really be ready to sift thru all the rude and hateful comments. I was raised that there is a right and wrong way to talk to people. I wish others were taught that as I've been talked down to or as if I'm stupid on there many times. Don't get me wrong, the group has taught me a ton and I like the info I get that's valuable. I just don't see why people expect everyone to be an expert on everything or to have read every post.

I am a tech guy with an IT degree who formerly worked for Microsoft. I know how to search and find things on the internet. Yet often times searching Facebook groups is terribly difficult. That's why people often have to post the same questions over and over, the answers are buried in posts from months or years ago. Anyways, enough of my rant.
