Goodwill and A Toddler Size Table

A new Goodwill store opened today closer to our house. We got there at 10:30 and the parking lot was full along with the side street and a neighboring store. I told hubby there were too many people and we would not get a cart. He agreed and took me to the other GW in Weston. There I found a toddler size table with 3 chairs. DH asked me why the chairs were different sizes. Only one chair was bigger than the other two and I am not sure why. I put that one up in our closet. We can't have mismatched chairs now can we?

paid $6.99 for the table and chairs

I was very excited to find another VTG Smurf sheet. I had sold one earlier this year for around $35 and I happened to find the exact same one. I already have it listed in my store. Judging from completes, they sell better at auction but my luck is I get one bid and end up selling cheap. (example: Earlier this week I put my Hidden Mickey Duffy Bear with a starting bid of $9.99. It sold for that price. Even though it was not an unique color, I should have gotten more for it)

I will keep the books for Ryker. I paid $4.99 for them and on EBay new ones are selling for $14.95. Since mine are used, I won't get that price. The ABC Delivery truck is missing one card so we will be keeping that too.

I think this Build A Bear monkey is cute but I read if you find BAB with clothes, you should sell the clothes and re donate the animal. BAB clothing sells for a good price. The animals do not. However, I just left the monkey as is and listed him in my store. Someone might think he is as cute as I do. I also found some BAB black shoes. I thought the blue shoes were BAB as well since they were in the same bag but they are not. They are Cabbage Patch Kids.

Last week I found this heart shaped end table at my favorite thrift store. It needs a new top but for $3 I can't complain.

and one more owl I found along with the puppies. The other two owls and the candle holders I got at the consignment shop.

paid: $1.44

owls $2.50 each Holders $3.25 each

Garage Sales Finds and The Thrift Store

On Friday, I finally found some garage sales that were close enough for me to walk to. At the first garage sale, I found 3 toddler puzzles, an A&W mug (to keep) A Blue's Clues guessing game and a wind up Smurf (gave to sister)

paid $2.25

The next sale was a bust. The prices were too high for my liking. At sale #3, I got 3 Little Golden books for free. The lady said I could have all the books but I did not want to seem greedy. I was a little sad that they put the price on the cover in pernament marker. When I tried to remove it, it left a white spot. These are going in my lot for resale on Ebay.

When I entered the 4th sale, the guy running it asked me if my husband drank Miller beer. I thought that was an odd question as I did not see any beer items there. He also said I could have any toy for a quarter. I passed and left quickly.

Sale number 5 had a lot of girl stuff and I only found 2 items: Perfect Bear Care Bear and another Little Golden book.

paid .25 cents

The last sale I scored some more Little Golden books and a bucket of legos for Robbie. I noticed the seller had a vintage kitchen chair and I asked if he had any more. I was hoping he had the whole set. He only had the one. I left it there as I could not carry it while pushing a stroller. As I was walking away, I thought I really want that chair. I figured I would go back later in the day with my sister who has a car.

paid $2

My day would not be complete without a trip to my favorite thrift store. (I actually went there first before the garage sales) I really had to have the Sherlock Hound dog I saw there earlier this week.

paid $1.58

My sister came over in the afternoon and I bribed her with the Smurf figure to take me back to garage sale #6. I told her if the chair was not there to keep driving. I was going to offer him $3 but willing to pay up to $5. We got there and it was not sold. Before opening my big mouth, I asked him how much he wanted. He said it was marked $1. I practically threw the money at him in my excitement to grab the chair!

paid $1

We then went to another thrift store on the other side of town. I am selling it all except the boots. Those are for Ryker. Hopefully his feet will grow another size before the snow gets here.

paid $2.11

total spent for the day: $9.19 possible profit: $65 - $85

What to buy: character sheets

Whenever I go to Goodwill, I always check out their linen aisle. I am looking for character sheets and pillow cases. It doesn't matter if they are a set, if they are flat or fitted (although in my experience flat single sheets sell better than single fitted sheets) or their size. You want to find sheets with bright colors, little to no piling and no stains or holes. If you do happen to come across a great sheet with stains, you still might consider purchasing it. As long as the whole sheet isn't stained and it's a good price, buy it. Some people use these sheets for craft projects such as shopping totes, backing for quilts and toddler dresses.

Vintage character sheets will get you a higher price. One to look for is the Smurfs. With a new movie coming out, there are sure to be a new generation of Smurf fans. I sold one a few months back for $34.95 You want to list your sheet at BIN with BO. Auctions will most likely not get this high.

Mickey Mouse and Snow White are two other vintage sheets to look for. Make sure you look closely for stains. On my Snow White sheet, there were some small spots I did not see. My buyer did though and returned it for a refund. I relisted it as a cutter and mentioned the stains. The other sheet I sold her was fine and she was happy with that one.

sold for $35

sold for $30

Newer characters can also bring in a profit. I tend to avoid Barbie, Power Puff Girls, Power Rangers and Spiderman. I am sure there are others to avoid but these are the ones I haven't been able to sell. Sponge Bob seems to do well. A lot of buyers make little sundresses out of these sheets. Very cute!

2 sheets sold for $27

Also be on the look out for Cars sheets. With the second movie, a lot of moms are looking for these for thier little Cars fan. These do not get high prices though and sell better as a set. I sold just a flat twin for $10 but the set I doubled my money.

Don't forget the pillow cases. Like the sheets, crafters use these for their projects. Be sure to use cutter and fabric in your title. Moms also buy these to replace the ones their children have. I sold two Care Bear pillow cases for $19.95 to a mom who was very happy to find them.

So there you have it. Be sure to do your research when listing yoursheets to get the best price possible.

Thrifty Thursday Finds

I went to my favorite thrift store today and gasp! they hired a new girl to price items. Most of the stuff is unmarked and you can negotiate at the checkout. I'm afraid this will stop and the prices will go up as I overheard her saying to the manager " These glasses are collectable. They should be priced at $3 each." (gasp!) Most glasses are a quarter to a dollar.

Anyways for some reason I did not feel like digging, which is half the fun of thrifting and ended up with only the few items shown below.

Fisher Price Super Star Stage.

These can sell for between $25 to $40. I always list for $39.95 or Best Offer. Even without the microphone, they do quite well.

The next item I found is this Maneki Neko bank. It literally means Beckoning Cat. It is believed to bring good luck to it's owner. I have not listed this yet, as I do not know a starting point and I really like it.

I debated getting this next item. It is a vintage Chubble. His nose lights up and if you cover his face, he giggles. I have him listed at $34.95 with a best offer. One like him sold last week for $40.

I also found this cute teddy bear. When doing research, I could not find one like him. He is absolutely adorable and would make a great addition to any bear collection.

And last, this great pair of vintage children's rain boots with a Smurf on the side. I figured with the Smurf movie coming out, there will be some new fans.

Click on the pictures to see my items in my store. So what great finds did you pick up this week? Feel free to put them in the comments section.
