A few days ago I posted about finding a Henry dog and his girlfriend Henrietta at the thrift store. But who is Henry?
Henry was created in 1971 to be the Spokesdog for Animal Fair Toys. He had a girlfriend named Henrietta and several friends such as Clyde, Clara, Decker, Clem and Doogan.

He was marketed as " everything that a stuffed toy can be. Soft and cuddly, floppy and funny, with a wide eyed, innocent expression and a body that begs to be hugged".
These stuffed dogs are well sought after and command high prices on Ebay. This past weekend I sold my Henry dog for $99.99 and Henrietta for $69.99. Keep an eye out for these guys. Even damaged ones will sell.
What a great find!! I had Henry when I was a kid--loved him! Not $100 kinda love -lol, but glad someone did!
ReplyDeleteSo they're from the 70's? Yours look like new! What a fantastic find!! Congrats!
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous flip!! Congrats.

Holy smoke!! I have never heard of Henry or any of the other ones.
ReplyDeleteGreat flip. I don't know if I could develop a $100 love for Henry but glad someone has.
I still have Doogan and with a house of my own now, I'll have to find him a room. Took him to school everyday in Grade 3!
ReplyDeleteI was given a set of four Henrys as a baby. I still have one of the larger ones that my son has begun to cuddle with. The smaller 12" Henry went everywhere with me; I had two that were worn out with my love - I never knew he was a spokesdog so thank you for sharing. May have to find him a girlfriend now.
ReplyDeleteIn 1976, I went to a small convention type show where some look alike of Gerald Ford put on a skit. That is where I got my 12" Henry Dog, and still have him today. A little wear, but no damage. Never would have imagined.
ReplyDeleteI turned 5 yrs old in 1976, I got Henry for my birthday that year and three years later for Christmas i got Doogan, unfortunately that was the last Christmas i had with my mother before she passed, I developed sense of comfort with my dog's, and to this day at 45 yrs old I still have them both, I've often wondered what to do with them when I'm gone, who will love them like I do ? I've decided, they're going with me and when that day comes I want them buried with me, I know that sounds kinda creepy, but they have been there for me my whole life, and they will be with me for eternity😂

DeleteI was given Henry who i call Arthur when i was around 4-7 years old and still to this day i cherish him and I'm 46 i think he will be buried with me also.
DeleteAnyone in the fan club? I'm trying to find information on iit.i used to want to be buried with Henry but passed him along to my daughter when she graduated college
DeleteI was 3 and bought these at Disney world Everytime I went ..my mom never understood and j have a huge Henrietta still in attic
ReplyDeleteI would gladly buy that Henrietta from you so she could see the sun!
DeleteI got $25.00 (which was a Huge amount back then..lol) from my grandma for Christmas in 1976, I was 5 yrs old. I walked up and down the toy isle FOREVER until I came upon a huge row of henry dogs. I didn't know for sure if this was going to be my amazing purchase until out of ALL the rows of henry dogs I saw one with his ear sewn on backwards. To my complete panic my heart dropped in my stomach and I was so so worried that nobody would probably buy him and was so sad at the thought that he was never going to be picked or loved. So of course he was picked out of pure love...I'm 47 yrs old and still have my Henry who will always have love and a home😁
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this! I was always buying the stuffed animal who wasn’t quite perfect because I didn’t want it to be left on the shelf with no one to love!
DeleteOOohhhh! This story gave me happy chills!
DeleteIf you ever find a doogan please let me know! Ive been searching forever and it seems like I'll never get one of my own again. Whoever got those is very lucky.
ReplyDeleteI have one and it's amazing iv'e had it my whole entire life!
ReplyDeleteI had my Doogan for 40 years, when my beloved live beagle passed away, I had Doogan buried with him to cuddle with. Ive missed them both to this day, and am looking for a new Doogan.
ReplyDeleteKnowing nothing about who Doogan is, I found what I think is a newer version... the tag is on his left hip and he’s in perfect condition except that the initials “DJ” are written on the Princess Soft Toys tag with a heavy black marker. I’ve been posting our adventures together for the last week or so on Facebook and he’s becoming a minor celebrity. Photos available.
ReplyDeletemy stepdad gave me a Henry for Christmas and he died shortly after. I still look for them but cannot find one in my price range may have to save up. sure miss John and Henry <3
ReplyDeleteI was given a Big Henry from Santa when I was 3. I lugged him around even though he was bigger than I was! The next year Santa gave me a Little Henry. I slept with both of them in my bed. Each year after I collected different size Henry's and even a Henrietta! Over the years I have loved them and sewn them and remembered the best days of my childhood. This past year my English Mastiff puppy chewed up two of them. I was devastated-and still am as they were my very best memories. I don't know if many understand how a stuffed animal can be the very heart of a child. Anyway, I have been lucky enough to find these treasures on Ebay! I have been adding to my collection and I now have 10! Even at 51 years old, I love them like I was little again!
ReplyDeleteI love these stories about Henry I almost died when I was five and it was a gift from my grandmother a much larger one.I'm not sure what happened to him somewhere I lost him in my twenties I'm on the search for another but I never called him Henry I had named him Georgie 🤣
ReplyDeleteI've had my Henry for over 40 years. We have had many travels together. He has been by my side through the good and the bad. I have it arranged for him to be buried with me. I could never be without out my buddy.
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know the sizes Henry came in?
ReplyDeleteHi Henry lovers!!...I have had my Lil Henry for 48 years!!!..And who would have ever known I would marry someone named Henry!!!...God bless....
ReplyDeleteIn early 70's I picked Henry at Walt Disney World gift shop out of entire shop. Go figure. I did love him!🥰
ReplyDeleteI just found a pretty large (30ish inches tall) 1976 Animal Fair Yellow Bunny Rabbit w/ Blue overalls. Please tell me someone knows his name? Please!!!!
ReplyDeleteMy little brother found his Henry Plush dog while we were waiting for the bus beside Travis Park back in 1990. He had it for many years and called it Harry, despite my constant efforts to correct him. He took Harry everywhere. It lasted without needing any stitching and he passed it down to our little sister in 2008, however, she didn't take to it like he did so my mom had it put away. Fast forward to 2020 when my first daughter was born, my mom gave her the Henry Plush toy and now she plays with it. I saw it among her other toys and wondered how old this Plush could be. Surely a Plush dog with a name tag Henry should have a history. I'm glad I've come across this information. We have no plans of selling it and will continue to pass it down for as long as poor Henry holds on. I would be curious to find his friends.
