Thrifty Finds

We went to Goodwill on Monday and there was this couple that were obviously resellers. They would grab something off the shelf and then look it up on their phones. It didn't bother me too much but since I don't have a phone, I wondered if what I put in my cart was already picked and researched by them? For example, this child's plate set. It looked like the couple were purchasing items that were new in the box so I wondered why they skipped this? I searched all over Ebay and haven't found any like this. It was made in 1987. The box says Top Gun F 14 child's plastic server.

I thought the Rock and Roll Mickey was a good seller so I picked him up. Maybe around Christmas, he will fetch a higher price?

I bought this Little Tikes doll house because it looked like there was furniture inside. They had a bunch of tape on it and I should have removed it to see what was inside. When I got to the car, it was pretty much junk but it did have one Little Tikes grandma doll. Ryker claimed this since it doesn't go for much.

Some of these Carter's dolls can go for big $$$. Unfortunately, this one does not.

I only found one other of these listed so I'm not sure it that is a good thing or not. There is nothing on Amazon either that I could find. It is by Little Tikes.

At St. Vinnies, I found a vintage Fisher Price fire truck, a Stewie doll and a My Banky pink cat.

  1. shoot me when i get a smart phone and start checking every item....trust your instincts , have you ever seen a wealthy looking person doing the phone checking?

  2. I will do it occasionally, but not every item. I do not have the patience for that. I am like Kate; trust your instincts. Who wants to look up every item? And a lot of times you won't be able to get a connection. Not worth it.

And I pick up all of those loveys I can get, like your little pink kitty. I have sold about 4 of them.

    1. It was funny to watch them pick up items I would never buy, look at their phone and then put it back This was mostly in the plush aisle

  3. I'll tell you, I've learned not to go to certain thrift shops b/c I know that the owners ALSO do ebay. Therefore, you KNOW the good stuff has already been "cherry-picked" and listed before it ever hit the floor. I don't know if you've ever experienced that, but we have one private thrift store near here that I know I won't find much there for that reason.

    1. I know the goodwill here does that but I can usually find some things. We have a couple of thrift stores that will have a print out from ebay or amazon on some of their items. The thrift by my house seems to price anything that looks old high. Just because it is old, doesnt mean it is worth a lot

  4. My smartphone has saved me more than once. I used to end up with stuff that I couldn't sell, but now I can look it up on my phone. I don't do everything like that couple; but if it is a higher priced item that I think may be a good seller, I may look it up. Sometimes I'm glad I didn't buy an item - so it has saved me money. Other times, I have made money. Your gut instinct is always the best, but a smartphone can be helpful.

  5. BTW, I wanted to say that I like the child's plate and I would have picked it up without even looking at my smartphone! The Mickey is also a great find. Nice thrifty finds.
