Owl Take Him

I forgot to show what I found in the free box on Friday. A homemade owl. Isn't he cute?

How can you resist those big orange eyes? He is made from a pine cone. At first, I wasn't going to get him because I don't need anymore owls and I showed Bill and he said "Just get him. You know you want him." The seller saw me holding him and said "My grandma made that." (How sweet and you're throwing it away.) I knew I couldn't let him be thrown in the trash, so he went home with me. He is sitting in my curio cabinet with all the rest of my owls. At least he isn't lonely.

Yesterday's Yard Sale Finds

Rib Mountain had their annual community garage sales yesterday and I believe over 80 homes participated. Of course, we didn't make it to all of them but we did find some fantastic things.

Stunning Starburst Clock (keeping for myself) $2 and it works!

Some hot rollers and free crucifix

Why yes, those are the coveted Remington Tight Rollers in the back. I listed them last night and they sold within a few hours for $89.99 with free shipping. They are new in the box.

A toy train for Ryker, some Pink Dogs, a MMPR figure, and TMNT and what is in that brown case?

I did not get the brown case at a yard sale. I bought it at Goodwill. I knew right away what it was when I saw it. It is an Olivetti Portable typewriter made in Italy. The case is in poor condition but the typewriter seems to have been well taken care of. The ribbon is broken but the keys do not stick. I think my sister wanted this but I spotted it before her. I don't think she knew what it was until I opened it.

Unless otherwise noted, most of my finds are for sale in my Ebay store http://stores.ebay.com/To-the-Toy-Box-and-Beyond

She Shoots, She Scores

On Friday I picked up two pairs of vintage All Star Converse at a garage sale.

I didn't buy them at first and left the sale. I went to a couple of others and said to myself: "Self if those shoes are still there, we are going to get them." I walked back and there they sat, my pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I offered the seller $7 for both pairs. He had $5 on each. He took the offer and I said: "My son loves Converse shoes. He's going to love these." The guy said "Oh are they the right size?" (Doesn't matter, I thought. I'm listing these puppies on Ebay.)  I said "Yes. He wears a 10." He replied "Someone wanted to buy the blue pair while I was still wearing them." I picked them up and said "Are these old?" He replied "Yes they're vintage." I thought for sure he was gong to snatch them out of my hands and say "No shoes for you." I put them in the stroller and jumped for joy ran away  walked away.

I couldn't find any like them on Ebay. A group I belong to was having an auction contest where you list one item at auction for 7 days with an opening bid of $7 The auction that had the highest bid would win $77. I decided to put these as my entry. The contest started today.

I listed them and got one bid. Then I got a message asking if I would cancel the auction and list as a BIN for $300. Yes, 3 BIG ones. Who would turn that down? Not me, sucker. He paid right away. I then got a second message from another buyer asking me to cancel the first sale and sell them to him for $500. Shoot, wish I would have waited a few minutes there. I told him I was sorry as I was obligated to sell them to the first buyer. (Can you imagine the bad karma on that?)

I'm happy with my profit and they are going to Minnesota in the morning.

First Community Yard Sale

Yesterday was the first time our city put on a community yard sale at the park. For $12 sellers could rent out a spot from 9 - 4. I didn't sell anything but went to buy since the park is across the street from my home. We got there about 9:20 and it was crowded. It was hard to maneuver a stroller and keep track of Robbie. Robbie is hearing impaired and tends to wander. He also picks up items he should not. I bought him a toy computer for .50 to keep him focused. At one point, I told him to wait by the stroller while I looked at things on a table. I thought he had walked past me and I grabbed his arm. I said "You need to wait right here". He pulled away and I heard a guy's voice say "I don't think I know you." To my horror, I had grabbed a complete stranger's arm. Next time, I will be sure to look up before grabbing. Onto what I bought.

The first time through with the boys, I got two cat figurines, two owls, a costume jewelry cameo and Robbie's toy.

The second time, I went by myself (which I should have done to begin with but no one was home to watch them) I got some good bargains as most vendors were marking their stuff down.

I had seen this Bambi and Thumper figurine the first time but did not get it. I couldn't find anything like it on Ebay but it seems like Bambi figurines can go for a good amount of money.

I love the way they are looking at each other. I priced it high because I love it so much and don't really want to sell it.

Another view so you can see the tree trunk they are laying next too.

I also found some more owls I seemed to have missed the first time there.

Garage Sale Finds

Yesterday, I went to 14 garage sales. I walked to 7 and the other 7, I went with my sister. Here is what I got.

I found those Christmas candles at the first garage sale but since I was walking, I did not get them. I went back later with my sister in her car. They are quite tall, almost as tall as Ryker.

I almost didn't get the vintage Converse either. The seller wanted $5 each. I couldn't remember if it was the All Stars or One Stars that are good money. I walked away and went to some other sales but returned and asked if he would take $7 for both pair. I told him my son loves Converse and would love to have these. (I'm totally selling them on Ebay)

Some pennants I liked. Not sure if they will sell on Ebay or not.

I picked this key chain up at an over priced sale. When I saw it was $2, I sadly put it back. As I was walking down the driveway, I heard it's little voice calling me "you know you want me. Take me home. I'll keep track of your keys." I had found $5 earlier in the store parking lot so I paid the 2 bucks and put him in my purse for later.

I don't know how much these security blankets will fetch on Ebay but they were cheap so I picked them up.

Today, I went to the first ever community garage sale held at the park across from my house. I will show you what I found tomorrow, so be sure to come back and visit.

Meeting Elyse and Garage Sale Treasures

Yesterday, Sarah took me up to the hospital to meet my first granddaughter, Elyse. She is such a cute baby. Mom and dad are quite proud. (and so is grandma)

After visiting, we went to check out the two garage sales that were close to the hospital. I found these two macrame owls at the first sale and nothing at the second.

I love the burnt orange color on this little guy.

This second one is quite big. He has the cutest eyes. Unfortunately, they both have a musty odor I can't seem to get rid of. Both of these are for sale in my Ebay store. (click picture to see listing)

My sister also gave me 3 bottles of Orbitz soda to sell. I checked Terapeak and in the past two weeks, one bottle has sold for $21.00 I listed all hers in one group. If they do not sell this month, I will try selling them individually.

They make the perfect window decoration.

First Yard Sale

Today, I went to my first yard sale of the season. (I'm sure there have been several but this is the first one I got to check out) I had high hopes because when I walked up, I spotted a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Unfortunately, it had no figures and was missing the slide and shoe part. It was only a buck so I decided to get it. The lady running the sale said it was free. I asked her if she had the toys for it and she went to her car to look. Nope. She couldn't find any. I think I might still try to sell it on Ebay.
