I bought new shades for my owl lamps. I left the plastic on because I'm not quite sure I like them. What are your opinions?

Once the plastic is off, I can not return them. What are your thoughts? Return or keep?

I personally like the old shades. They look more vintage. But perhaps their condition isn't so great?
ReplyDeletep.s. I'm a new commenter, but frequent reader.
Old shades.
ReplyDeleteI like the new shades
ReplyDeleteI think I like the old shades.
ReplyDeleteThe new shades are not big enough. Also, I like the shape of the old shades better. If they are in bad condition, maybe you can find similar ones?
ReplyDeleteI like the new shades. Probably because they are a little more updated..
ReplyDeleteAs much as I dislike the old drum shades, I think that shape is working better. I don't think the new shades have enough height to them. Replacing shades is always hard for me. I know there must be a rule of thumb to follow for size, but I'm clueless as to what that is.
ReplyDeleteOh wait that sounded bad!! I don't mean I dislike YOUR old drum shades, I mean drum shades in general! They are usually yellowed and cracked from age. Sorry, certainly didn't mean to offend!!!
ReplyDeleteI really like the old shades that they came with!
ReplyDeleteMy opinion: the new ones are too small in scale. The old ones sit too low. If you could find taller, slightly more tapered modern shades, I think they would match the bases in scale better than what you've purchased, and update the look slightly as well. Target (in NY at least) has a large selection of shades.
ReplyDeleteI think the lamp deserves a drum shade. I have a lamp nearly identical to your two, though I found mine sans shade. I spent a good deal of time seeking out a suitable drum shade, only to wind up altering one to fit. My comment may be too late to affect your decision, but I vote for the original shades.
ReplyDeleteAlso, I recently saw a shade at World Market which I thought would be perfect for the lamp; it was a drum shade made from what appeared to be real wood veneer. A bit pricey, if I recall.
You can see the shade I used (from IKEA) here: http://blog.seancorron.com/?p=43. I thought the ultra-suede just kitschy enough for the lamp.
