I have become obsessed with owls lately. I tell myself I am buying them to resell on Ebay. Which is true but I tend to overprice them and they will never sell. On Monday, when I came across these owl lamps, I had to have them. They are quite heavy and are 34 inches from the top of the shade to the bottom. Each owl is about 10 inches tall. The tree trunk has a bowl for keys and such. I paid $6 for the pair.
Not only did I get a great deal, I got a worker to carry one the 10 blocks to my house. I had walked there and did not have a car. I managed to get one lamp under the stroller and I had no idea how I was going to get the other one home when the cashier said Tim could go with me and carry one. How nice is that? I did feel bad that he had to carrry a 20 pound lamp 10 blocks. I offered him a soda but he declined.
I would like to replace the shades with more modern ones but I don't think I can find new shades that will work with these lamps. They have the screw thing on the top.
Would you have bought these?

I wouldn't have bought them, but they aren't my style..lol. But..if I was a owl lover.. I would have been all over them. And $6 for the pair was a great price.
ReplyDeleteWOW! What a great price! I would have been really really tempted to buy them. I have no place for them though, so I guess no, with a sigh.
ReplyDeleteI would have wanted to buy these just because they are soooooo awesome! I don't know where they would go but wow they are soooooo coool!
ReplyDeleteI might have bought them, but if I did I would paint them white, I've seen some like that in stores lately and that is something I could live with, along with new shades. Great find!
ReplyDeleteI forgot to mention, I found 2 small owl figures, painted similar to yours, I spray painted them white, and am now working on making them into lamps!
ReplyDeleteThey are amazing , I'm guessing they are from the 60's. I live in Ca in a an area that has too many high priced antique shops & not enough thrift stores. They would be a hit w/ the Antropolige -Urban outfitters crowd. In the right area even w/ their current shades, they would probaly catch $199-300 for the pair.
ReplyDeleteYou only paid $6?? I am so freaking jealous- I love those lamps- DeDe@vintageandflea.com
ReplyDeleteI think they would make great conversation pieces and I'm sure my 11 month old grandaughter would go CRAZY over them!
ReplyDeleteI definitely would have bought them but not to keep for myself, I'm not an owl collector. Would have listed them for sale on craigslist. Wouldn't have listed them on ebay, don't want to have to pack/ship something like that. You got them for a great price!!
ReplyDeleteWow, they are amazing. I really don't know if I would have bought them or not. The price is right, but not sure I would keep them and wouldn't want to pack them to ship if I sold them. Glad you went with your gut.
ReplyDeleteGreat Price. I have them and a few others. Yes, I'm an owl collector:)
