Instead of doing a Fantastic Finds Friday, like my fellow bloggers over at We Sell On Ebay www.ebayundergroundblog.com I have decided to do a Freakin' Flops Friday. This is where you put your items that you thought would be great sellers only to get them home to find a flaw or they do not work. They can also be items that have sat in your store forever.
My first flop of the week is this Vtech Vsmile gaming system.
Whenever you buy electronics, you take the chance of it not working. Since my thrift store does not have any kind of return policy, I took a gamble and purchased it. I thought at least I could sell the cartridges. I got it home and plug it in. Voila! It worked. Except when you took the game out, it shut off. I wasn't sure if it was suppose to power off when removing the games so I listed it with that disclaimer. You can veiw it here: cgi.ebay.com/Vtech-Vsmile-learning-system-8-games-controller-pre-k-/180675438066?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a111865f2
My second flop was this teddy bear.
I grabbed it out of the box and without actually looking at it, gave it to Ryker. He loves teddy bears. When I got it home, I realized it had lost most of its stuffing. It also had a repair job under it's arm. Did I let that little flaw prevent me from listing it? Nope. I just got creative with it. Check it out. I might amaze you with my awesome marketing job: cgi.ebay.com/Dead-Ted-Plush-stuffed-teddy-bear-lovey-Proud-Toy-20-/180675926417?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2a111fd991
Feel free to post any of your flops here in the comment section.

When I first started selling online, I bought a TON of Winnie the Pooh plush toys. Big time flops. I did the same thing with Gund plushies. I sold a Snuffles bear for a ton and that got me thinking that Gund was super popular so I bought everyone I saw for a few weeks. I think I spent about $50 and sold one bird for $8. The rest went to Goodwill.
ReplyDeleteI just bought a huge pair of men's Doc Martens this morning for only $3! They look rough, but I knew I could fix them up with my magic lotion :) Once I got them home, though, I realized the insides are totally trashed. Probably unsellable, but that won't stop me from trying. I'll probably only get $20 for them instead of the $50 I usually aim for.
ReplyDeleteI'm working on DH to get me a phone with internet access. Without it, I am going blind and end up buying a bunch of stuff that will eventually go right back where it came from.
ReplyDeleteIt's nice to know that I'm not the only one. :)
great post Becky! I love the story behind the teddy bear! You just never know what is going to sell. I've had things sell that I just wasn't to sure about and of course I have had many flops. I have recently starting listing my flops on Yardsellr...no fees at all, free to list!
ReplyDeleteFreakin' Flops Fridays is a great idea! I'm sure there are tons of stories to tell ... I've definitely got my share!
ReplyDeleteLOL now here is a post I can totally relate to and post pics.
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since I have scored some "good junk" to flip on ebay.
Love your blog!!
