Goodwill Finds

My sister took me to the Goodwill in Rib Mountain yesterday and here is what I found. I got 4 shirts for Ryker. He grows so fast. I let him wear the light blue shirt today and within 90 minutes, he ruined it with red koolaid. Then the soap I used to pretreat it, left a white stain. Hopefully, when I do the laundry tomorrow it will all come out. There were also two pyrex mixing bowls a green and a yellow. The green one was bigger than the yellow one. I thought with the primary set, it was the other way around. I should have bought them.

I found a couple of owls but only bought one. It is a bookend and he was alone. I was sad I couldn't find his mate.

This puppy is a musical pull toy. I'm selling him on Ebay.

I found a bag of Little People furniture. The doll house was there too but I don't think those sell well and it would be a pain to ship.

Auction Finds

My husband has been going to a couple of auctions with his friend Chris. He can usually get boxes of crap inventory for a buck. The downside is everything is thrown into a box with no rhyme or reason so if you want one particular thing, you end up with a box of stuff you don't want. Sometimes when there are no bidders, they keep adding boxes and you get 3 boxes for a buck. Here are some items I found that are Ebay worthy. The rest of the stuff, (vases, knick knacks, pictures) I will probably donate to Goodwill. But don't tell hubby. I honestly think he is a hoarder.

Kodak Brownie Camera needs cleaning

This last item my hubby picked up at a garage sale this summer. I finally got around to listing it. He only paid a dollar. It's funny because I had picked this up earlier and then set it back down.

It is a Kodak Instamatic X 90. It even came with a flash cube and two extra lenses. I had sold a Kodak Retina Camera to a buyer in Japan for $90 earlier this summer and I'm hoping to get a good price on this.

New Bed New Dresser

I haven't gone thrifting in a week. Can you imagine? a whole week! and I probably won't be able to go until Monday if my sister will take me. I really miss my old favorite thrift store. It was in walking distance and I could go everyday if I wanted. (sad face) There is a consignment shop close by but I don't get the good bargains I did at the thrift.

Yesterday I went and bought Ryker a fire truck bed. I saw it a week and a half ago at the consignment shop and debated whether I wanted to pay that much ($125) for a bed when he already had one. I figured I would buy it for his birthday if it was still there. I checked online and new beds cost $300. I decided if I wanted to get it, I better do it before Black Friday or it would be gone.

Since it is slightly bigger than his old bed, we had to get rid of his huge dresser and replace it with something smaller. I got that at the consignment shop as well. It was covered in stickers and Bill did not think it was worth the $22 I spent. I was able to remove all the stickers and clean it up. The only problem with this dresser is that if you don't have it level, the bottom drawer sticks. It is quite frustrating. Perhaps Bill was right. What do you think? Would you have bought it?

Huge dresser we donated to Randalin Homes. They came and picked it up. I told them on the phone it was heavy and when they got here, it was 3 people and the girl and the old guy took it out of the house and the old guy dropped his end on the porch. It didn't break though. I felt bad for him. It came with mirrors too but we never had them on and when I got them out of the shed, one fell apart. It's an easy fix, the cardboard holding it in just needs to be restapled. They even took Ryker's old bed. (Bill had told me they wouldn't. Ha I was right)

Special thanks to my sister who helped me move everything.

Pyrex Love

Found two pieces of Pyrex at the consignment shop yesterday: a red 410 bowl and a blue 502 fridgie. The fridgie did not have a lid but for $2, I couldn't pass it up. The little red bowl is pretty beat up but it was only a buck. I don't think they would be this cheap at Goodwill. (I paid $5.99 for a fridgie with lid awhile back)

Ugggghhhh I Can't Believe

I deleted all my thrift store finds pictures!! And to make it worse, I cleared out my recycle bin before I noticed the missing folder. But fret not. I went to GW today and found some items to show you. Most are listed in my store (make me an offer) so if you see something you like, drop on by To The Toy Box and Beyond.

I found a few more owl items; a cool pen holder, a napkin holder and a mini owl pitcher. I also found an ABC toy for Ryker but Im not sure what it is called. Anyone know?

What I thought was cool about the napkin holder besides it vintagey awesomeness, on the bottom is my Uncles name, Tom Kelly. Yeah, I know, he probably did not make the item or owned it, but I thought it was cool.

Don't you hate it when they put the price sticker right smack in the front of the item? Why not put it on the bottom? I did manage to get the sticker off with some goo gone but I know that is a harsh product and you have to be careful so it does not mess up the paint.

This bag of wooden pieces contained an Animal ABC puzzle. Let me tell you, it was hard to put together without any picture or reference to go by. I have never seen this particular puzzle before but I sold a similiar giraffe abc puzzle a few weeks ago for $19.99. Hopefully I can get around that for this puzzle. If not, Ryker will have a new toy come Christmas.

Whooooo Has An Owl Collection?

Over the last couple of weeks, I have found several more owls to add to my collection. (It is only a temporary collection as most of my owls are for sale in my Ebay store. or at least that is what I tell myself) I have only sold 2 owls so far. I have priced them competitively so I'm not sure why they are not selling. I wish I knew how to figure out the maker but most of them are unmarked.

Last Monday, I found an owl lamp at GW. It looks to be homemade and the base is the State of Wisconsin. (My home state) I already have two owl lamps but I could not resist this one. It was only $5.99

not for sale

also not for sale as they are quite heavy

I bought an owl clock off of Ebay. It is more than what I would pay at the thrift store but I really wanted a clock and this one is so cute with her baby owls.

another one not for sale (maybe my collection isn't temporary?)

On Friday I went back to Goodwill and found some more owl figurines. I did leave 3 of them behind. One I already had and the other two were not very cute.

I also found a Fisher Price Bird Bath that sells between $25 to $40 on Ebay. I sold a similar one for $39.99 a few months back. This one is missing two of the shapes. Ryker threw it down yesterday and the light went out. I was going to keep it but then Ryker threw it again this morning and now the light is working. I hope to get at least $20 for it. With Christmas coming, I may get more as this is a hard to find toy.

I found this music box at a different GW. It plays "I Like to Teach the World to Sing". I have it listed in my store.

Here is my owl collection. The cabinet does have a glass door but I didn't want my fat reflection showing.

The green one in the front is not an owl. Its an alligator first tooth holder. Hiding underneath the owls is a vintage radio clock.

The two owls in the back are night lights. See their cords in the front? The cloth underneath the cords are vintage fabric calendars. I have to find frames for them. There is also a spoon holder and trivet. All together I have around 65 owl things.

Weekly Finds

It's been awhile since I posted things I found at the thrift store so I thought I would do a post today. Last Tuesday, I went over to the new building my favorite t.s. moved too. It was very different from their old shop. It was clean, organized and had nice stuff. Unfortunately, everything was over priced. They are trying to get away from the thrift store aspect and be more like a preowned boutique. Their prices are higher than the consignment stores and if they do not change thier business model, I feel they won't have a business for long. If you want Ebay prices, you need to sell on Ebay.

Here are some of my finds for that day. (Nothing from the new store)

I thought these creamers were Pyrex because of the design. They are Gemco.

Found another owl. The tree trunk is open and you can put your change or keys in it. It could also be used as a candle holder.

I paid $1.60 for these two tealight holders. They attach together and are made of stone. When my sister saw them in my cart, she asked if there were more. They originally came in a set of 4 but I could only find 2. If they don't sell, I will probably let her have them.

I also found 2 vintage tea towels.

Find Of The Year

Sophie over at Her Library Adventures is hosting a contest Find Of the Year. Be sure to stop by there and vote for your favorite find. (me lol)

I have had so many great finds, it is hard to narrow it down to just one. I love my owl lamps, Ryker loves his rocking chair, I made a good profit off of the illuminated world globe and the vintage suitcases make a great decoration. But I guess my favorite find is my vintage telephone seat.

I found it at my favorite thrift store for $15 The guy who sold it to me had told me it was previously bought and then the buyer redonated it because she was moving and did not have the room for it. Her loss was my gain.

My sister found a vintage rotary phone to go with it. She paid $5. The phone actually works but since Ryker will not leave it alone, it is displayed in my curio cabinet.

Ryker broke the lamp

Now that you know what my favorite find was, go over to Sophie's blog and vote!

WTF Tuesday

Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.
