Thrifty Thursday Finds

I hadn't been to the thrift store all week so I thought I'd find some good stuff today. I found a couple of things but nothing spectacular. They did have a end table of sorts with an Eagle on it that was kind of cool but they wanted $25 for it. Maybe if I can get something to sell tonight, I will go back tomorrow to get it.

I thought this Barbie Caboodles was pretty neat. Back in December, one sold at auction for around $60. I wonder if it was a Christmas present?

Some kitchen items:

Euro Chopper It's missing the storage container and lid. I'm almost positive I saw it in another area and I should have looked at it more closely. Maybe it will still be there tomorrow.

Mirro cookie press: I have sold a couple of these before but it may not be the right time of year to sell now.

I usually do not pick up Wilton cake pans because the t.s. prices them to high but I got this one with 2 inserts.

and last but not least, vintage Star Wars fitted twin sheet

Top 10 Thrifty Sales of 2013

My top 10 favorite finds I sold this year. It was hard to choose 10 because I have sold quite a bit and some items may have sold higher than these. I really liked these items and probably would have kept them if I wasn't selling on Ebay.

I believe I found this typewriter at Goodwill. I love vintage typewriters and thought the blue was unique but I'm pretty sure we had this exact typewriter in high school. I sold this for $79.99 It was a challenge to ship.

I bought this Pokemon bedding set from my Facebook garage sale group. I sold it for $79.99 to a student who said it arrived in time for her to pack for her dorm.

I found two of these travel bar sets and sold both to the same buyer. One I found at Goodwill and the second at a thrift store. My sister found one at a garage sale and thought something was missing (it wasn't. It was the spot was for the bottle of alcohol) so she did not say anything to me. I sold this one for $65

This canister set was purchased from the thrift store by my house. Unfortunately, the biggest container arrived at the buyer's house broken in several pieces. Sold for $60

These monkey slippers were bought by a lady for her boyfriend. When they met, he was wearing a similar pair. (I didn't ask) They sold for $45

I would have never known what this cat was if I had not seen it on one of the Ebay FB groups. It is a kitty surprise that came with 4 kittens. Found at Goodwill and sold for $50 I believe it went international.

I love this little camera purse. I bought it at a thrift store and sold it for $24.99

I won this from an auction site that has since went under. It was a local place and my hubby went to pick it up. This Mickey ornament sold for $57.00

I figured this Animal ornament would be a good seller and I was surprised to see what it was selling for. I found it at the thrift store and it sold for $64.99

and my favorite find came from Craigslist. I asked for help pricing this item on an Ebay FB page and was told I would be lucky to make $20. What he did not consider is this is the checkered plaid Burberry bear and I ended up getting $59.99 Other Burberry bears do not sell this high.

GoodWill Finds

Finally was able to get to Goodwill this morning.

I am keeping the No No Jack book for Ryker and selling the rest in my Ebay store. I have a complete double size set of the Holly Hobbie sheets and a complete set of the Wall-E sheets. I hope to at least get $20 a piece. I also found a Jansport book bag. I'm not sure how much a used one will go for but if it does not sell, one of my kids can use it for school.

Goodwill does have a better selection of items but no one can beat the prices of my favorite thrift store. I hope to go back tomorrow and get some books I saw there yesterday and a computer toy that has been there for awhile.

What to buy: character sheets

Whenever I go to Goodwill, I always check out their linen aisle. I am looking for character sheets and pillow cases. It doesn't matter if they are a set, if they are flat or fitted (although in my experience flat single sheets sell better than single fitted sheets) or their size. You want to find sheets with bright colors, little to no piling and no stains or holes. If you do happen to come across a great sheet with stains, you still might consider purchasing it. As long as the whole sheet isn't stained and it's a good price, buy it. Some people use these sheets for craft projects such as shopping totes, backing for quilts and toddler dresses.

Vintage character sheets will get you a higher price. One to look for is the Smurfs. With a new movie coming out, there are sure to be a new generation of Smurf fans. I sold one a few months back for $34.95 You want to list your sheet at BIN with BO. Auctions will most likely not get this high.

Mickey Mouse and Snow White are two other vintage sheets to look for. Make sure you look closely for stains. On my Snow White sheet, there were some small spots I did not see. My buyer did though and returned it for a refund. I relisted it as a cutter and mentioned the stains. The other sheet I sold her was fine and she was happy with that one.

Newer characters can also bring in a profit. I tend to avoid Barbie, Power Puff Girls, Power Rangers and Spiderman. I am sure there are others to avoid but these are the ones I haven't been able to sell. Sponge Bob seems to do well. A lot of buyers make little sundresses out of these sheets. Very cute!

Also be on the look out for Cars sheets. With the second movie, a lot of moms are looking for these for thier little Cars fan. These do not get high prices though and sell better as a set. I sold just a flat twin for $10 but the set I doubled my money.

Don't forget the pillow cases. Like the sheets, crafters use these for their projects. Be sure to use cutter and fabric in your title. Moms also buy these to replace the ones their children have. I sold two Care Bear pillow cases for $19.95 to a mom who was very happy to find them.

So there you have it. Be sure to do your research when listing yoursheets to get the best price possible.

Goodwill Hunting

I know. I know. I said I would stop shopping at Goodwill for resale because their items are too expensive but I had to look. The Goodwill voices in my head kept calling me. I only spent $9.40 and got the following:

1 Thomas the Train window vallance
1 role playing game "How to Host a Murder"

I thought the game was pretty cool but the completes on Ebay do not look good. It seems like they do not sell. I guess no one plays role playing games anymore even if they are endorsed by Vincent Price. The game is like Clue. You try to solve the murder with the clues you are given. It is meant for 8 players. I was suprised to see everything was in the box. Even the original invitations were there. Someone also went through the trouble of photocopying all the materials but I left those out. Maybe with the Best offer option and free shipping, someone will purchase it. Also in the series of games is an "All My Children" version. I wish I had found that one instead. I would have kept it.

Two of the coffee mugs I found were from the Shoebox Greetings line of Hallmark. They are cute mugs. The other one is from Disney's Animal Kingdom. It has two tigers in a ying and yang design.

Thrifty Thursday Finds

I normally try not to go to Goodwill to find items to resell, but yesterday we were in the area so we decided to stop. I had Ryker with me, so I wasn't able to browse as long as I wanted. He started throwing out items from the cart half way through the store. Luckily it was just blankets and not the planters I found.

Starting from the back are vintage Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs Sheets. I found 2 sets of these. They are twin flats I believe. Next row is the vintage Raggedy Ann and Andy twin flat sheet. This is really cute and would be great to make a quilt out of. Next are the two Care Bear blankets I found. If they don't sell, I can always use them as WI weather is unpredictable and mostly cold. This morning it was in the 50's. The bottom row shows my planters, a Norman Rockwell mug, a sing a ma jig for Ryker and a Care Bear.

This is one of the planters I found. I think it would look very cute in a nursery. You could put flowers in it or use it to hold baby items such as cottonballs, q-tips, pacifers, whatever. I think it would make a great baby shower gift.

This is the other planter I found. It is smaller but could function in the same manner as the other one. I like the colors: baby blue and pink. It could work well in a boy's or a girl's nursery.

This morning I walked over to my favorite thrift store and found this vintage coffee percolator. It has all the pieces inside of it. If I can not sell it, William said he would like to keep it as coffee made in these tastes so good. (I can thank his dad for allowing him to drink coffee.)



I also found Build with Pooh Mega blok set, two garfield ties and a Vtech Vsmile infant development system. Unfortunately I could not find the t.v. part of this but perhaps someone will just want the base. It still works and teaches colors and shapes. Besides kids watch too much t.v. as it is so why encourage them to watch more?
